Our History
Iriga, in the dialect means, “there is land”, grew from pre-Spanish settlement of inhabitants was established as a barrio in 1578, as a town of Camarines Sur in 1684, and as a city on September 3, 1968. It is situated 400 kilometers south of Manila. It has a total land area of 17,400 hectares. It is one among the seven (7) cities in the Bicol Region.
Iriga City Division was founded on February 19, 1972. It is composed of forty (40) elementary and twelve (12) secondary schools situated in three districts – central, north and south with the two big institutions in the city, the University of Saint Anthony (USANT) and the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) and other private schools serving 2,891 kindergarten, 18,800 elementary and 10,839 secondary learners handled by 75, 674 and 420 kindergarten, elementary and secondary teachers, respectively.

Under Dr. Nidea’s leadership, with the support of ASDS Wilfredo J. Gavarra, the following initiatives were introduced and implemented inspired by the former superintendents’ priority projects anchored on DepEd’s thrusts:
D – riving DepEd Iriga City to perform excellently in academics, extracurricular activities and office operations;
E – thical governance with emphasis on accountability, integrity, honesty and transparency (to continuously restore people’s trust in public education system);
P – artnerships and community engagements sustained (www.how);
E – xtraordinary caliber of personnel and learners developed;
D – ecentralized management and transformational leadership;
I – inclusive education (all learners (ALS, ALIVE) at the Center of Basic Education);
R – eforms implemented within standards (K to 12, SHS and RAT Programs ) and all resources appropriately and efficiently utilized;
I – nstitutionalization of PRIME-HRM Level of Practice (From Transactional to Process-Defined);
G – earing Up for Asean Integration and Gender and Development (GAD) strengthened (equality and sensitivity);
A – academic standing sustained (elementary) and improved (secondary);
C – onnectivity – Information, Communication and Technology Institutionalized in SDO and schools (connected through establishment of division and school websites);
I – PED strengthened and SPED Mainstreaming Program Fully Implemented;
T – eacher and Non-teaching Personnel Welfare prioritized (HROD)
